Anyone applying for an occupational license must be fingerprinted for a criminal background check.
The most efficent process is utilizing the inkless Live Scan Fingerprinting system instead of manual inking in that the fingerprints are electronically transmitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at the time they are taken. Live scan avoids many of the problems associated with ink prints such as smudging, smearing, and over or under inking. The major benefit of the Live Scan system is that the results are obtained within 3-5 days versus 2-4 weeks from the manual inking process.
Uretsky Investigations is certified by the State of California, Office of the Attorney General, Department of Justice Fingerprint Rolling Certification program to roll application fingerprint impressions for licensure, certification, and employment purposes.
Livescan is an inkless fingerprinting process where fringerprints are electronically transmitted to the Department of Justice for background screening.
In 1997, the California Department of Justice (CA-DOJ) developed the automated background check process, which requires Livescan fingerprints for criminal history background checks that may be required as a condition of employment.
Livescan technology replaces the ink process of recording fingerprint images. The CA-DOJ may also forward Livescan fingerprints to the FBI if required.
Livescan may be required as a condition of employment for:
Teachers, caregivers, contractors, security guards, nurses, doctors, surgeons, real estate licensees, appraisers, notaries, foster parents, stock brokers, volunteers, and anyone applying for a professional licensing, certification, or permit.
Persons applying for foreign adoption or VISA/Immigration clearances may also need Livescan processing.
A trained and certified technician will scan your fingerprints using a Live Scan machine.
The electronic fingerprinting session takes five to ten minutes and your prints are immediately sent via electronic transmission to the appropriate FBI-certified channeling agencies for background processing.
Proper identification is required for any fingerprinting services requiring verification of signature.
California recognizes the following types of identification as valid if issued by the state within the last five years:
- California driver's license
- California identification card
- U.S. passport
The following types of identification are acceptable if they are current and have been issued within the last five years:
- Driver's license or ID card issued by another state
- Mexican or Canadian driver's license issued by an authorized agency
- U.S. military identification card
- Foreign passport if stamped by the immigration and naturalization service
The results of your background check are made available to the requesting agency and may take 7-10 business days to process.

Make sure to have your birth date and ATI number when calling. The ATI number is on the bottom of the Request for Livescan form. The system will prompt you to enter the ATI number for the letters, enter the corresponding numbers, and for the birth date, enter MM/DD/YYYY.
